Hector Calderón is the Co-founder and former Principal of El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice. El Puente was the first community-based organization in New York State to create a Human Rights public school and is a nationally-recognized model for culturally responsive and community-driven education. Mr. Calderon was a member of the White House Initiative for Educational Excellence for Hispanic students, under the Obama administration. Calderon serves as Senior Content Specialist for the NYC DOE’s Urban Ambassadors. which is designed to specifically support young men of color to be ready for college and develop their leadership skills. Mr. Calderon is a member of New York State’s My Brother’s Keeper Blue Ribbon Committee.
